Activated Oxygen is NOT Ozone when Stabilized
Ozone is sometimes called “activated oxygen.” The name is entirely appropriate because of the unstable nature of ozone. It all has to do with the number of oxygen atoms.
Ozone contains three atoms of oxygen rather than the two atoms we breathe. Ozone is the second most powerful sterilant in the world and can be used to destroy bacteria, viruses, and odor.
HOW DOES OZONE WORK?
Ozone changes the chemical structure of contaminants such as odors, bacteria, and viruses to be less offensive. The third oxygen atom of ozone makes it highly reactive. This atom readily attaches itself to other odor molecules. With more ozone attacking the remaining compounds, the odor eventually disappears. This process is called oxidation. After oxidation, ozone essentially reverts to oxygen, making it a very environmentally friendly oxidant. Read more about ozone.
Free Radicals
This stray, unattached third oxygen atom is also called a “free radical.” They are very short-lived, usually in the 1/10000 of a second range. But during this time, they create damage. In the case of odors, this is a good thing. Inside the body, well, this can be good AND bad.
The Good Free Radical
Minute amounts of free radicals are essential for many vital immune system functions and other crucial cellular activities.
A threat to our health is only when high concentrations of free radicals are present or when the levels of free radicals overwhelm the body’s ability to remove them. For example, the immune system will generate free radicals to use in the process of removing a virus or bacteria. Maintaining the balance between free radical activity and antioxidant enzyme supply is one of the body’s essential functions.” This quote is from Dr. Peter Rothschild, Free Radicals, Stress and Antioxidant Enzymes (University Labs Press, Honolulu, Hawaii. 1991; 3-4.)
The Bad Free Radical
When the cells in the body encounter a free radical, it causes a bit of destruction in the cell. Constant free radical damage will eventually kill that cell. When the cells are damaged, the organism ages.
So what is Oxygen?
Even though it is true that ozone is “activated oxygen,” it is NOT an activated STABILIZED oxygen because of the electrical charge of oxygen atoms. They like to be together 😀
“At standard temperature and pressure, oxygen is a pale blue, odorless gas with the molecular formula O2. The two oxygen atoms chemically bond to each other with a spin-triplet electron configuration. Oxygen is the most abundant chemical element, by mass, in the Earth’s biosphere, air, sea, and land. Oxygen is the universe’s third most abundant chemical element, after hydrogen and helium. About 0.9% of the Sun’s mass is oxygen. Oxygen constitutes 49.2% of the Earth’s crust and is the major component of the world’s oceans (88.8% by mass). Oxygen gas is the second most common component of the Earth’s atmosphere, taking up 20.8% of its volume and 23.1% of its mass (some 1015 tonnes).” from Wikipedia’s oxygen page.
Activated Oxygen: When Is It Stabilized?
OxygenSuperCharger™ is “activated,” meaning it has active oxygen in the liquid and is “stabilized” because the oxygen consists of 4 oxygen molecules. That’s right, four atoms of oxygen.
O4 oxozone (polyatomic tetraoxygen) is two oxygen molecules bonded together. Think about it. If ozone having three oxygen molecules is unstable because it is an odd number of oxygen atoms, then a molecule made of 4 oxygen atoms would be stable! And THIS is the oxygen in OxygenSuperCharger. O4 is stabilized within the liquid using a proprietary method to bond it to sea salt minerals. Once inside the body, when its bond does break down, it becomes two beautiful molecules of oxygen that your body loves.
So you can see why a bio-available liquid oxygen product like OxygenSuperCharger™ is NOT ozone.
