Bio-available Liquid Oxygen

The term “bio-available liquid oxygen” sounds straightforward. However, it describes a product category that the supplement industry has muddied with misleading names, dubious formulas, and overclaiming on all sides. If you searched this term because someone recommended a liquid oxygen supplement to you — and you wanted to understand what you were actually buying — this article is for you.

I have used Activated Stabilized Oxygen personally since the 1990s and have sold OxygenSuperCharger™ since 2010. Nothing here is medical advice. What I can offer is more than 15 years of firsthand experience and a trained eye for carefully evaluating research claims.

What “Bio-Available” Actually Means

The word “bio-available” comes from pharmacology. It describes the proportion of a substance that enters circulation and produces an active effect. A substance can be present in a product without being bio-available — because the body cannot access, absorb, or use it in that form.

In the context of liquid oxygen supplements, bio-available liquid oxygen is the critical distinction. It separates products that contain actual, accessible oxygen molecules from products that contain no oxygen at all — but instead trigger a chemical reaction inside your body to generate it.

That distinction matters more than any other claim on the label.

the oxygen in H2O is not bio-available oxygen

The Oxygen in H₂O Is Not the Bio-Available Oxygen Your Body Uses

A common and understandable question is: water contains oxygen — so why isn’t drinking water enough? The answer lies in how that oxygen exists in water. The oxygen atom in a water molecule (H₂O) is covalently bonded (sharing electrons in a stable chemical bond) to two hydrogen atoms. In that bonded state, it is not free oxygen and cannot participate in cellular metabolism. The U.S. Geological Survey describes dissolved oxygen as oxygen that is separate from — not part of — the H₂O molecule itself. The University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences puts it plainly: even fish do not breathe the oxygen in H₂O. Instead, fish breathe dissolved oxygen — free O₂ molecules suspended between water molecules but not chemically bonded to them. In the same way, the oxygen relevant to human cellular function must be free and accessible, not locked inside a water molecule. Furthermore, breaking those covalent bonds requires significant energy input — specifically, an electrical process called electrolysis. That process is, notably, the foundation of how ASO® is manufactured.

The Landscape of Liquid Oxygen Supplements

People turn to bio-available liquid oxygen supplements for various reasons — athletic performance, energy, and general wellness. However, the market includes a wide range of products, and some pose serious safety concerns. Understanding the landscape helps you make an informed choice.

Old-Technology Sodium Chlorite Supplements

The original generation of liquid oxygen supplements — sold in health food stores going back to the 1940s — used sodium chlorite as the active ingredient. These products came as a single liquid, typically a 3–5% sodium chlorite solution. Instructions directed users to dilute a few drops in water before drinking. No mixing of separate components was required.

These products contained no actual oxygen. Instead, when the diluted solution reached the stomach, it reacted with stomach acid, generating oxygen through that chemical reaction. Because sodium chlorite is caustic at higher concentrations, the dilution requirement was not optional — undiluted contact with skin or tissue could cause burns. The pH of these products commonly reached 13.0 or higher, well into the caustic range.

This is the product category OxygenSuperCharger™ has always described as “old technology.” It still exists in some form today, though it has largely disappeared from mainstream retail due to regulatory pressure and the availability of safer alternatives.

MMS and Two-Part Chlorine Dioxide Products

A distinct, more extreme category emerged when Jim Humble’s 1996 discovery was publicized in a 2006 self-published book, leading to widespread online distribution of a product called Miracle Mineral Solution (MMS). MMS used a much stronger 28% sodium chlorite concentration and introduced a separate acid activator, typically citric acid or hydrochloric acid, that users were instructed to mix with the sodium chlorite solution before drinking. When mixed as directed, these two components produce chlorine dioxide, an industrial bleaching agent — not bio-available oxygen. Any oxygen generated results from a corrosive chemical reaction, not from stable O₂ molecules your cells can readily access.

MMS was marketed not as an oxygen supplement but as a cure-all for diseases including cancer, HIV, autism, and COVID-19 — claims entirely unsupported by evidence. The FDA has warned consumers against these products multiple times, beginning in 2010 and issuing additional warnings in 2019. The agency pursued criminal enforcement against sellers who marketed it as a disease treatment. In 2023, federal prosecutors sentenced several such distributors to more than twelve years in prison. The FDA’s consumer guidance on these products is available at fda.gov.

If you encounter a two-part product that instructs you to mix a sodium chlorite solution with an acid activator before diluting and drinking, this is not a product that contains bio-available oxygen.

Food-Grade Hydrogen Peroxide

Another product category with a long history in alternative health circles is food-grade hydrogen peroxide, typically sold at 35% concentration. Some advocates promote it as an oxygen therapy based on the theory that extra oxygen benefits the body.

The FDA issued a formal health advisory against internal use of high-strength hydrogen peroxide products in 2006, warning that ingestion can cause serious harm or death. Specifically, the FDA identified gastrointestinal irritation, ulceration, gas embolisms (oxygen bubbles in the bloodstream), and potentially life-threatening allergic reactions as documented risks. Poison control centers advise that even one swallow of 35% hydrogen peroxide can cause serious injury to the gastrointestinal tract.

The term “food-grade” refers only to purity standards — it means the product lacks certain industrial stabilizers, not that it is safe to ingest. The FDA has never approved high-strength hydrogen peroxide for internal use.

Hydrogen peroxide does release oxygen when it decomposes — but the same oxidative reaction that releases it also produces free radicals, making the delivery mechanism itself the problem.

Ozone Products

Ozone (O₃) sometimes appears in the oxygen supplement space because it contains three oxygen atoms rather than the two oxygen atoms in the oxygen we breathe (O₂). Some proponents describe ozone as “activated oxygen” — but activation in this context means chemical reactivity, not bio-availability.

Ozone is an oxidative stressor, not a stable bio-available liquid oxygen supplement. The FDA classifies ozone as a toxic gas with no established safe level for human inhalation and prohibits its use in food processing above safety thresholds. Internal ozone therapy exists as a practice in some alternative medicine contexts, but it remains highly controversial and is not available as an over-the-counter supplement in the United States.

OxygenSuperChargerO4 oxozone polyatomic tetraoxygen bio-available liquid oxygen

What Makes ASO® Different

The Activated Stabilized Oxygen (ASO®) technology used in OxygenSuperCharger™ takes a fundamentally different approach. Rather than relying on a chemical reaction to generate oxygen inside the body — or introducing an oxidative agent — ASO® contains actual, dissolved oxygen molecules that exist in the liquid before you take it. In other words, OxygenSuperCharger™ is bio-available liquid oxygen.

The manufacturing process starts with purified water and a small amount of food-grade sea salt. An electrical current separates oxygen from hydrogen within the water. The oxygen molecules then stabilize within the saline solution, forming a stable O₄ molecule called Polyatomic Tetraoxygen. This molecular structure stays stable in the solution because of the way its electrons interact and because of the increased molecular mass — which is also why the oxygen does not simply escape when you open the bottle, unlike carbonated products.

At the end of the process, carbon filtration removes most of the remaining sea salt. The final product contains no chlorine dioxide, hydrogen peroxide, or caustic chemical salts. Its pH sits at approximately 7.4 — close to neutral and compatible with human tissue. You can take it directly under the tongue without diluting it.

What the Research on Bio-Available Oxygen Actually Shows

Researchers have conducted three clinical studies on the specific ASO® formula used in OxygenSuperCharger™. I want to present these honestly — with their limitations acknowledged — because honest framing serves you better than selective quoting.

Study 1 — Sprint Performance (Brunei) Researchers measured sprint performance in nine athletes. They observed marginal but favorable results. Because the sample size was small, the findings are suggestive rather than conclusive. However, no adverse effects appeared, and the directional result favored the supplement.

Study 2 — VO₂ Max and Blood Lactate Researchers studied 35 athletes and measured two outcomes: VO₂ max (the maximum rate at which the body uses oxygen during intense exercise, a standard measure of cardiovascular fitness) and blood lactate levels. This study produced more significant results. Athletes showed meaningful reductions in blood lactate and improvement in VO₂ max. Lactic acid accumulation causes the burning sensation and fatigue that limit performance during high-intensity effort. Therefore, a reduction in lactate suggests the body processed exertion more efficiently.

Study 3 — Blood Oxygen Saturation Researchers measured blood oxygen saturation directly after subjects took the supplement. They recorded a measurable increase in blood oxygen levels lasting approximately 30 to 45 minutes.

All three studies are available in full at the OxygenSuperCharger™ ASO® Research Studies (PDF). For a full discussion of each study, including methodology and limitations, see our Research and Studies page.

Taken together, these preliminary findings suggest that the ASO® formula may support oxygen availability during physical exertion and recovery. However, all three studies are small, and larger independent research would strengthen the evidence. I present them as what they are: real data from real researchers, honestly framed.

How to Evaluate Any Product in This Category

Because the liquid oxygen supplement market uses overlapping and sometimes interchangeable terminology, a label alone can mislead you. These are the questions worth asking before purchasing any product in this space.

Does the product come in two separate components that need to be mixed before drinking? If yes, this is the MMS/chlorine dioxide format. The FDA has explicitly warned against these products and pursued enforcement action against sellers who made disease-treatment claims alongside their sale.

Does the product require dilution in water before use? If yes, it likely uses old-technology sodium chlorite chemistry. These products do not contain bio-available liquid oxygen — they rely on a chemical reaction with stomach acid to generate it, and their high pH makes them caustic if taken undiluted.

What is the pH? A safe, bio-available product sits close to neutral — around 7.0 to 7.5. Products with a pH above 10 are caustic, regardless of what the label says.

Does the label list sodium chlorite or high-concentration hydrogen peroxide as an ingredient? Both formulations are those the FDA has specifically warned against for internal use. Sodium chlorite is the basis of both old-technology oxygen supplements and MMS. High-concentration hydrogen peroxide carries its own documented risks described above.

Does the manufacturer provide third-party research? Extraordinary claims require evidence. A manufacturer that provides access to actual clinical studies — however small — demonstrates greater accountability than one that offers only testimonials.

Can you take it sublingually (under the tongue)? Sublingual application is only safe with a product whose pH is near neutral. Products with caustic chemistry cannot be taken this way safely. A product safe for sublingual use signals both a neutral pH and genuine bio-available liquid oxygen.

OxygenSuperCharger is world's premiere bio-available liquid oxygen supplement

A Note on What This Product Is

OxygenSuperCharger™ is a dietary supplement. It does not treat, diagnose, cure, or prevent any disease or medical condition. The FDA has not evaluated these statements. If you have a specific health concern, please consult a qualified medical professional before adding any supplement to your routine.

What the research does support is this: unlike the other products discussed in this article, ASO® delivers oxygen that is already present in the liquid — stable, bio-available, and ready for the body to use without a chemical reaction, without caustic chemistry, and without the risks the FDA has documented for hydrogen peroxide and chlorine dioxide products. The three clinical studies on the ASO® formula show a measurable, temporary increase in blood oxygen saturation and preliminary support for endurance and recovery. Those are honest claims, grounded in what bio-available actually means.
