Oxygen Water Basics: Water is second only to oxygen as what is essential for life to continue. Your body must replace 2.5 quarts of water every day. Water is not only a foundational part of our lives… Water literally becomes you! Glen Ellis puts it this way:
Since such a large percentage of our bodies are water, water must obviously figure heavily in how our bodies function. Aside from aiding in digestion and absorption of food, water regulates body temperature and blood circulation, carries nutrients and oxygen to cells, and removes toxins and other wastes.
This “body water” also cushions joints and protects tissues and organs, including the spinal cord, from shock and damage. Chronic dehydration may cause certain problems for the body, including hypertension, asthma, allergies, and migraine headaches.
The body can sustain life without food for an extended period of time, but without water physiological processes are comprised and death occurs in a matter of days.
Heavy and long term exertion like that of athletes can mean a person will use 2+ gallons of water per day. Dehydration, literally means the removal of water from an object; however, in physiological terms, it means a deficiency of fluid within an organism. the lack can have dramatic effects on performance. A Ball State University study showed a runners dropped 7% in speed over 10 kilometers when they were dehydrated by just 2%-3%. This reduction in speed is because a dehydrated muscle causes you to have about a 10% loss of contractile strength and an 8% loss of speed. Another problem caused by dehydration is cramping. When cells lose fluid and electrolytes this causes them to malfunction or cramp. “Dry mouth” signal is the sign of extreme dehydration. Since the thirst sensation decreases with age, the result is the tendency for increasing dehydration as we age.
We even need water to breathe! As we take in oxygen & excrete carbon dioxide, our lungs must be moistened by water. We lose about 1 to 2 pints of water each day just exhaling. Oxygen, once you breath it in, depends on the liquid plasma and moist red blood cells to move it throughout your body and get it to the cells and body functions that need it. The best way to give the oxygen access to the cells is to drink a LOT of water. Good water is clear and clean and full of oxygen. Oxygen levels will become a fifth or so of its starting level by the time water reaches its boiling point.
